Classes at the University of Bayreuth
- The introductory courses are taught in Standard Bambara from Mali;
- If
students are interested, it is possible to include an introduction to
one of the other Manding languages (Dyula, Malinke, Mandinka) in
advanced courses
- Beginners' courses always start in the winter term
- Basic
skills are taught in four introductory courses: Initial course (G1),
Basic course (G2), Intermediate course (G3), and Advanced Course (G4)
in subsequent terms. Students who wish to enroll in the advanced course
“Bambara across media” must have successfully completed the four
introductory courses;
- These are the learning objectives for the basic courses:
- Understanding and actively participating in conversations in everyday situations
- Reading and writing simple texts
- Cultural competence to navigate Bambara-speaking environments with ease
- Familiarizing
oneself with various genres of oral literature in Bambara: proverbs,
fairy tales, and epic texts, understanding films and other media
- The
lessons are divided into two parts: in addition to theoretical
explanations and exercises, role-playing is used to practice everyday
communication in various situations;
- The
advanced course includes, among other things, a project: either the
participants write and perform a play, or they rehearse a performance
of a fairy tale with assigned roles (narrator and protagonists);
You can find current courses under
